Spanish rarity from Rioja!
This Crianza from the year 2004 comes from the top wine region Rioja from Spain. The vineyards of Rioja, located in the north of Spain, run about 100 km between the cities of Haro and Alfaro along the Ebro. The Cantabrian Mountains flanking Rioja to the north and west provide shelter from the cold, humid Atlantic Ocean influences, giving it a warmer and drier climate than the rest of Spain. Rioja was the very first Spanish region to receive DO status in 1933 and in 1991 became the first to be upgraded to the highest quality standard of DOCa.
The wine was bottled by the Solabal Bodega Y Viñedos, which was founded in 1988, but still combines tradition with the latest technology. They mature their wines in American and French oak barrels to give their wines an exclusive taste. Every year, the winery fills only 500,000 bottles, with about 70,000 bottles accounted for each type of wine, so that it is already a rarity in the 2004 vintage.
This Crianza is a Rioja blend, which consists of a variety of grape varieties, similar to the Bordeaux blend. They include a range of flavors from lighter red fruits such as strawberries and cherries to richer and more mature flavors such as plums, chocolate and compote. The name Crianza means that the wine had to mature for at least 12 months in oak barrels and the total maturation period is two years.
