In dark ruby red color comes this big Medoc
Crucial for this is the mixture of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot to a Bordeaux blend. This can in principle consist of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Camenere, whereby in practice only Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon as mixing partner are used. Cabernet Sauvignon provides the structure, the bouquet and the fruit, while the Merlot is needed for roundness and fullness.
The conditions in the Medoc are ideal for slowly ripening red wine grapes, since these are brought to maturity particularly gently by the light-reflecting and well-drained soils and can therefore develop an excellent taste. Therefore, it is not surprising that with Pauillac, Margaux, Saint-Estephe and Saint-Julien four of the world's best wine villages are located in the Medoc. In the immediate vicinity of these is Saint Ferdinand, where the Chateau La Franquette is located.
